Who this page is about
Financial advisers, Financial Advice Providers, and other people who work in the New Zealand financial advice industry, in their business capacity.
What information we hold
- Your name, business or Financial Advice Provider name, role and type of advice.
- Your business email address, business phone number, business address and region.
- Your Financial Service Provider number and registration details.
- Information you give us directly, for example when you register, join, contact us or reply to an email.
- How you interact with our emails and website, for example whether you have opted out.
Where it comes from
- Directly from you.
- Public registers, including the Financial Service Providers Register and the Companies Register.
- Your business's website and other information you or your business have published for business purposes.
- Public professional profiles and industry directories, such as LinkedIn.
- Business contacts, events, referrals and existing business relationships.
- Our related businesses (Riverhorse Technologies Limited, including CalcStudio, ClientConnection and Find a Mortgage Broker) where you have dealt with them.
- Individual contact details held by the owners and managers of NZMAI.
Why we use it
- To tell you about NZMAI's membership, tools, training, events and member offers that are relevant to your work as an adviser.
- To send you the NZMAI weekly market update and industry news so you remain informed.
- To set up and run your account if you register or join.
- To improve our services and understand what advisers need.
- To meet our legal obligations.
Business-to-business only
We contact advisers only in their business capacity, at business contact details, about matters relevant to their work. We rely on the fact that these details have been published for business purposes, or that you have a business relationship with us. Every commercial email we send clearly identifies NZMAI, tells you how to contact us, and includes an easy way to opt out.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your information.
- We do not give your contact details to lenders, advertisers or sponsors. Sponsors only receive total figures, such as how many advisers received or opened an email.
- We do not use your information to market to consumers. However, a consumer may ask us to pass their details to you.
Who we share it with
- Our related businesses listed above, where needed to provide a service you have asked for.
- Service providers that help us run NZMAI, such as email, website hosting, analytics and database providers. They may store information outside New Zealand, and we choose providers that protect it to standards comparable to New Zealand law.
- Anyone we are required to share it with by law.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while it is relevant to our work with advisers. If you opt out, we keep only what we need to make sure we do not contact you again.
Your choices and rights
- Choose which emails you receive – for example, keep the weekly update and training news but stop other emails.
- Opt out of any email by replying "stop" or using the unsubscribe link. We action this the same day, and always within 5 working days.
- To stop all contact from NZMAI, email Admin@nzmai.co.nz.
- You can ask to see the information we hold about you and ask us to correct it.
- If you have a concern, contact our Privacy Officer first. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
