Community rules

The rules that keep the community useful for every adviser, and the terms for using it.

The rules

  1. 1. Be helpful

Ask and answer as you would with a colleague. Share what has worked for you and say when you're not sure.

  2. 2. No client details

Never post a client's name, contact details, IRD number, address or anything else that could identify them. Describe the situation instead.

  3. 3. No advertising

Don't promote your own or anyone else's products or services. The only promotions are clearly labelled sponsors arranged with NZMAI.

  4. 4. No personal attacks

Disagree with ideas, not people. Posts that attack, insult or harass anyone are removed.

Everything here is general information shared between advisers - it isn't financial advice, and you remain responsible for the advice you give your clients. Staff may edit, hide or remove posts that break these rules, and may stop an account from posting.

Using the community – the terms

By joining or using the community you agree to these terms.

  1. 1. Who the community is for

The community is only for New Zealand financial advisers who are registered on the Financial Service Providers Register (FSPR), because it shares information meant for mortgage advisers. By joining you confirm you are registered, and you agree to tell us if that changes. NZMAI may check the register at any time.

  2. 2. NZMAI decides who joins

Joining is at NZMAI's discretion. We may accept or decline any application, ask for proof of your registration or qualifications, and suspend or close any account at any time, with or without a reason.

  3. 3. General information only – never advice

Posts, answers, comments, polls, links and replies from Mia (NZMAI's AI assistant) are general information shared between advisers. They are not financial, legal, tax, lending or compliance advice, and they are not NZMAI's views. You remain fully responsible for the advice you give your clients and for checking any information with the lender, provider or a qualified professional before you rely on it.

  4. 4. No responsibility for what is shared

NZMAI does not check, verify or endorse what users or Mia post, and accepts no responsibility for its accuracy, completeness or how current it is. Lender policies, rates, test rates, criteria and processes change often, and anything in the community may be wrong or out of date.

  5. 5. You use the community at your own risk

You use the community, and anything in it, entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, NZMAI, its directors, staff and contractors are not liable for any loss, damage, cost, claim or penalty of any kind – direct or indirect, including lost business, income or clients – arising from your use of the community, from anything posted in it, or from relying on it. Nothing here limits any right you have that the law says cannot be excluded.

  6. 6. You are responsible for what you post

Only post what you have the right to share. Never post anything confidential, misleading, defamatory, or that breaches anyone's privacy or copyright. You give NZMAI permission to show, keep, edit, moderate and remove what you post, and you agree to cover NZMAI for any claim that arises from something you posted.

  7. 7. Changes

NZMAI may change these rules and terms, or close the community, at any time. The current version is always on this page, and using the community means you accept it.

How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy and How we use information about advisers.
